Απόψε θα πραγματοποιηθεί στο Royal Albert Hall στο Λονδίνο η 73η απονομή των βραβείων της Βρετανικής Ακαδημίας Κινηματογράφου (BAFTA).
Η ταινία «Joker», που ξεχώρισε για τη συγκλονιστική ερμηνεία του Joaquin Phoenix, συγκεντρώνει 11 υποψηφιότητες, τις περισσότερες για τα BAFTA. Το «Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood» του Quentin Tarantino διεκδικεί 10 βραβεία, μεταξύ αυτών: Καλύτερης ταινίας, Α’ Ανδρικού για τον Leonardo DiCaprio, Σκηνοθεσίας, B’ Ανδρικού ρόλου για τον Brad Pitt και Πρωτότυπου Σεναρίου.
Το «1917», η πολεμική ταινία του Sam Mendes βρίσκεται υποψήφια στις κατηγορίες: Καλύτερης ταινίας, Καλύτερης Βρετανικής ταινίας, Σκηνοθεσίας και διεκδικεί ακόμα 6 βραβεία.
Στη κατηγορία Α’ Γυναικείου ρόλου βρίσκονται υποψήφιες οι: Saoirse Ronan για το «Little Women», η Charlize Theron για το «Bombshell» και η Renée Zellweger για την ταινία «Judy». Η Scarlett Johansson διεκδικεί το βραβείο Β’ Γυναικείου ρόλου για την ταινία «Jojo Rabbit», ενώ ο Tom Hanks βρίσκεται υποψήφιος για τον Β’Ανδρικό ρόλο στην ταινία «A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood».
H ταινία «Pain & Glory» του Pedro Almodovar και το «Portrait of a Lady on Fire» διεκδικούν από ένα βραβείο στη κατηγορία Μη Αγγλόφωνης Ταινίας, ενώ η ταινία «Ford v. Ferrari» («Le Mans ’66»), βρίσκεται υποψήφια σε τρεις τεχνικές κατηγορίες.
Τέλος, από ένα βραβείο διεκδικούν οι ταινίες «Knives out» με πρωταγωνιστή τον Daniel Craig, «Booksmart» και «A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon».
